I am interested in the ultimate "why?" such as why should we save the Earth, why do I exist and so forth. Many will consider this unnecessary or even nonsence (my wife, for example, especially over breakfast) but perhaps it comes from too many physics courses where the exam question begins with "Derive from first principles...." which means to go back to the most fundamental laws (such as conservation of energy or momentum) and prove something or solve a problem based on those laws.
My level of comfort is best when I can "derive from first principles," which in this case means going back to the beginning of time, what most people know as the big bang and I call "The Grand Singularity." Why would I want to do this? It's time to look at some pictures. 1. The time-line of the universe; 2. The history of human evolution; 3. The history of the good part of civilation.
