BIG OIL & THE NATURE OF LIFE

Surprise, Surprise: Trump is Right

THERE ARE MANY OUTLOOKS ON LIFE and you can just pick and choose.

"Exxon Knew about Climate Change almost 40 years ago.

"A new investigation shows the oil company understood the science before it became a public issue and spent millions to promote misinformation." (Scientific American, By Shannon Hall on October 26, 2015)

"In their eight-month-long investigation, reporters at InsideClimate News interviewed former Exxon employees, scientists and federal officials and analyzed hundreds of pages of internal documents. They found that the company’s knowledge of climate change dates back to July 1977, when its senior scientist James Black delivered a sobering message on the topic. “In the first place, there is general scientific agreement that the most likely manner in which mankind is influencing the global climate is through carbon dioxide release from the burning of fossil fuels," Black told Exxon’s management committee. A year later he warned Exxon that doubling CO2 gases in the atmosphere would increase average global temperatures by two or three degrees—a number that is consistent with the scientific consensus today. He continued to warn that “present thinking holds that man has a time window of five to 10 years before the need for hard decisions regarding changes in energy strategies might become critical." In other words, Exxon needed to act."

That's why Trump may be right. You can just pick and choose.

When I first read about global warming some 12 years ago my instant reaction because of the positive feedback element from melting tundra was "we're screwed." My engineering backgrond told me immediately what the score was, and that is what is being written about today.

There are a number of utterly devasting parts to this situation.

1. The emission of CO2 is out of control. Exxon braggs that they can refine all that is in their reserves and have it used.

2. Hardly anyone who has not been through it comprehends the stunning suffering of a weather anamoly (such as hurricane Florence).

3. Scientists do not know how to communicate and non-scientists do not know how to think or listen.

4. All calamities thus far have been from 1°C rise. What will happen under 2 or 3 degrees or more is inconcievable and no one is trying to make the public understand. They hold "climate weeks" in Central Park instead.

Please excuse the words but I am utterl;y appaled at what a fuck-up the human race is. And we have a perfect storm of insane selishness and stupidly in our leaders.

Instead of at least attempting a go at a solution we spend all our media time on high school debauchery by fake leaders that should be ashamed even to accept nominations to a court where they will almost certainly continue their conservative tradition of stealing from the poor to further enrich the rich.
